About Cranky’s Game

A small sanctuary, built by hand.

How it started

Cranky’s Game began as a browser game built for one family, one evening at a time — a calm place to take care of box turtles, grow a little sanctuary, and go on gentle adventures together. It grew from there, one feature and one bug fix at a time, into something worth sharing more widely.

It started as a family project and is growing carefully, one release at a time.

Why box turtles

Box turtles aren’t flashy. They’re patient, a little stubborn, and they take real care to look after — which felt like the right spirit for a game about kindness and steady effort rather than speed or competition. There’s no rush here. A turtle that’s well cared for just keeps growing.

What we’re building toward

The offline version of Cranky’s Game already has adventures, achievements, a whole cast of companions, and a family of turtles to look after. Moving online means your progress can follow you across devices, and eventually, a few gentle social features — always with real thought given to what’s safe for kids first, and what’s fun second.

Our approach to safety

This is a family game, built with a family’s care. Every decision about what to add next gets weighed against one question: would we want our own kids using this? Parents stay in control of their kids’ profiles, there’s no advertising, and nothing about how the game is built depends on holding anyone’s attention longer than they want to give it.
